Slate Planter with Snake Door Knocker
The unusual door knocker on this slate planter was made about 1905 ~1910 in Oklahoma. What is also interesting is that it was originally a rail road spike!
I personally feel what the person was able to do with it is amazing!! Note how the body is twisted and looped around to form its unusual shape, and allowing it to swing freely. Note the marking on the head and body, and the mouth that was created underneath the head... not easy to do. Note the detail of the feet.....as if snakes have feet ~ lol
